Diamond Maldonado by Ashlyn Robertson

Bay City Central sophomore, Diamond Maldonado, is part of Central’s basketball team as well as the varsity softball team. Maldonado started playing basketball at the age of 12. Maldonado has the position of point guard. The sophomore mostly plays basketball to keep her busy and in shape for softball season. She is excited to see where this season can take her and watch herself improve.

Maldonado’s main focus is softball, which she’s been playing since the young age of two. Maldonado plays multiple positions in softball, including catcher, shortstop, second base, and center field. She’s been on Central’s varsity team since freshman year. When asked why she enjoys playing softball, Maldonado stated, “Because it’s something I’m good at, and enjoy pushing myself to get even better at.”

Maldonado is excited to jump into the upcoming seasons. She plans to push herself to get better at both sports, while also keeping up with her academics. Sophomore year is a busy and challenging time in high school but Maldonado plans to stay focused and keep on track. “Schools not my favorite thing, and I’d think most people would agree, but I plan on trying my hardest because I’m a student athlete, not just an athlete.”
